Havanabama brings the flavors of

Breona Winn and Shanika Wright, producers for the Tennessee Valley Living segment of WAFF48 news, got in touch with me through email about having Havanbama on the show in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Host, Gina Benitez, is a friend that I met when she first started working at WAFF48 news, who also happens to be Cuban American, like myself, and from South Florida.

Although I was SUPER nervous and anxious about being on LIVE TV, knowing Gina made the whole experience feel at ease and it was like talking to a friend, just for the whole world to see, lol.

I had been to WAFF48 for food deliveries before, but it was so exciting to actually be a part of the experience and share with the Tennessee Valley viewers a taste of our Cuban culture through Havanbama.

A taste of Miami in Huntsville: Discovering Havanabama’s Cuban hospitality

The Huntsville Journal's staff writer, Sarah Zupko, showed up to the Havanabama pick-up location with her father, in search of empanadas for his birthday. She introduced herself and asked if I wouldn't mind her recording me for an article she was going to write on Havanabama for The Huntsville Journal.

I was nervous because I wasn't expecting it to happen right then and there and we were busy and I was the only one running the kitchen and prepping the orders, but she got to catch everything as it was happening and I loved that my customers interacted with her and her father and shared stories about Miami that helped corroborate the stories I shared about the Miami food and lifestyle scene.

3 things to know about Havanabama—community, culture and cuisine

Sarah Gronberg, a content producer for Hville Blast, a local digital media company here in Huntsville, reached out because they wanted to write a small business feature on Havanabama and share it on their site and social media platforms. We met up at Champy's in Madison and I brought her an assortment of Havanabama goodies to share; such as pastries, a customized cafecito cup, wax melts and a painted artwork from my mother's business, Elephante Blanco. I had a great time with Sarah and appreciated the feature.

When I found out that Vicky, from the traveling blog, "Buddy the traveling monkey" was visiting Huntsville and that she is from Miami, I sent her a message and told her that she couldn't leave Huntsville without getting a taste of home. I met her, her fiance Mark, and the traveling monkey, Buddy, at The Hampton Inn in Providence, and brought them Pastelitos, croquetas, and cafe con leche.
